Analysis of Mise en Scene Elements

Handheld camera - This camera is held by someone and the movement that is recorded is natural. This is usually used to create a closer feeling with the protagonist as we live the film through their view.

In the first 5 minutes of the clip, it is obvious to me that the short film is set in London. The diegetic effect in the clip makes it obvious to the viewer that the film is set in a busy city centre, as people move about behind the subject, making the area appear busy. This makes the audience feel more involved in the film as the city appears realistic. I think the film is shot in the 2000's, as the cars around make it feel like that time period, with the boxy shape and design. The fashion of the time also is linked to early 2000's fashion.

The short film uses a range of shots like close up shots and medium close ups to convey an actor's appearance when talking and just to show what a character or a location looks like.  An example of this is portrayed in this scene, which is a close up shot showing the full face and a man holding some money.

This is an example of an overhead shot, as the camera is pointing down from a high location over the man that was hit by a car, which gives the idea that people are watching over in worry or disbelief as the man struggles to get up. This is considered a high angle.
