 Copyright - Copyright is the law which means that someone has rights to own their own property, and if anybody uses it without permissions or having bought rights to it, they can be punished for that, the legal rights to digital content.

Freedom of Gaining information - having the rights to decide what happens to personal information and how it's used.

Intellectual Property - Digital property and mental creations.

Libel - False statements which can damage somebody's reputation.

Slander - Online trolling, hurtful words and comment online.

Copyright - when someone steals or takes someones legal property. For example, "Blurred Lines" was copyrighted as it has a very similar backing track to the song "got to give it up" by Marvin Gaye.

Freedom Of Information act was passed on the 30th November 2000. It creates a general right to access to all types of recorded information held by most uk public authorities. There are some exemptions, and a number of obligations on those public authorities.

Intellectual Property - Bratz attempted to sue Barbie as their new line of dolls had the same design of the Bratz dolls, However Mattel claimed that the Bratz designer designed them under Mattel's payroll, meaning that the design belonged to Mattel.

Libel - Tangible in form, print writing or pictures. Examples - Magazine, internet, blog, article.

Slander - Intangible in form, spoken words of gestures. Examples - speech, news broadcast.

Libel - Colleen Rooney and Rebecca Vardy lawsuit, Vardy was using information from Colleen's instagram and releasing it to the sun newspaper. She then posted the evidence online and Rebecca Vardy lost the lawsuit.

Task - 

Documentary about high profile politician, gossip about sex life in show with no evidence to back up - 

This would be slander as they have no evidence to back their claims.

A number of photos that aren't the company's - taken from internet but relevant to the leaflet - 

This would be copyright infringement as they do not own the rights to the photos they have used online.

Graphic Novel called 'Viper Girl' which has an appearance from Batman in it - 

This would be a breach of copyright as well, as they do not own the rights to Batman, meaning DC could sue them or ask them to remove Batman from the graphic.


Identify TWO ethical or legal issues that Kamran needs to consider before the team develop ideas for myholidayplanner.

One legal issue that they would have to tackle is by making sure that nobody owns the right to that website domain, and if its free they needs to copyright it for themselves so nobody else can steal it and make it more profitable for them.

They would also need to make sure that they do not use any of their uses information for their own good, by giving it to someone or a site that shouldn't have the persons personal information, or selling information to others.
